Umarkot (Urdu: عمركوٹ), formerly known as Amarkot, is located in Umarkot district of Sindh province of Pakistan. This city was the birthplace of the Mughal emperor Akbar. This city was formerly the kingdom of Soha Rajput descent.
The main local language of this city is Dhanti, which is one of the Rajasthani languages of Indo-Aryan branch of Indo-European language family. It is most relevant to Marwadi dialect, though its people can understand Sindhi, Urdu and Punjabi language too.
Etymology
This city was named as Amarkot by its Hindu founder, Maharaja Amar Singh, who also built the Amarkot Fort. The name of this city was later Muslimized on the name of the old age of the story, which is also mentioned in Shah-jo-Risolo, is a popular tragedy actress in Sindh.
History
Amarkot Province was ruled by the Sodha dynasty of Rajputs from medieval times to India's independence. During the Mughal Empire and the British rule, the city was an important place. Mughal emperor Akbar was born on October 14, 1542 in the fort of Amarkot, because his father Humayun escaped from the hands of his own Mughal enemy, Sheh Shah Suri, where Rana Prasad, ruler of Sodha dynasty of Amarkot, gave him shelter.
It was here that Amarkot fort was kept in the Amarakot fort. The British executed Rana Ratan Singh, the ruler of this country, for standing up to the rights of the Sindhis. Here the activities of the Pakistani government to spread hatred of Hindus, religious intolerance and Muslim castration of this fort are done.
Pakistan's federal minister Rana Chandra Singh, one of the founders of Sohda Rajput clan and the Awakening of Umarkot and founder of Pakistan People's Party (PPP). He was elected to Parliament seven times from Urmokot parliamentary constituency. From 1977 to 1999, he was a member of the PPP, then in 1999 he founded the Pakistan Hindu Party (PHP). Currently, Rana Hamir Singh, his politician, is the 26th Rana in Tharpakar, Umarkot and Mithi.

Here are some ancient temples, Shiva Mandir, Umarkot Fort, Kali Mata Mandir, Krishna Temple in the old Amarkot and the Monhar Temple and Kathwari Temple in the Rocha line.
Folklore
This city is associated with a well-known Sindhi folklore of Umar Marwah. According to this story, Marvi was a Tharari girl, she was very beautiful. Marwi was kidnapped by Umar Akbar, the ruler of Umarkot, because the woman wanted to marry her and went to Moham. On refusing to marry, she was imprisoned for many years in the historic fort of Umarkot. Because of the courage and tolerance of Marwari, in Sindhi Lok culture, she is considered to be alive and symbol of love.
